HANNAH DRUMM
DESIGNER FOR PERFORMANCE
ABOUT
Hello,
I'm Hannah, a recent set and costume design MA graduate of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
When I was a kid I always knew I was going to end up working in theatre or television, I just didn't know where, I was on track for treading the boards, but decided that a life behind the curtain was where I could best serve the theatrical world. Graduating with a BA from the University of Hull in Drama and Theatre Practice was where my passion for design first began.
Working in Geneva as a Stage Manager I found myself ever being fascinated with the design process, assisting visiting designers with props, makes and painting, helping to create design solutions; I wanted to be more a part of this world.
After designing a few shows in Geneva, I realised that while I was thoroughly enjoying my work, I needed to hone my craft and further develop my skills so enrolled at RWCMD in MA Design for Performance.
The last year has been important in seeing a shift in my design process, blending the use of traditional model making and digital modelling creating a new approach to contemporary design. I am inspired by the collaborative aspects of performance design and it is one of the driving factors in my work, collaborating with a diverse group of creatives, who inspire and encourage me to tell new stories together through design. I believe that by finding and researching solutions for the right location, atmosphere, time period, metaphor or emotion, design has the power to be universal regardless of language, background or disability.
